Ending the drudgery of the morning commute to work is the dream of millions of workers. Technology is now making the option of working from home viable and more and more of us are taking that option.
But what of the practicalities? How easy is it to set up and run a home office?
Firstly you should consider whether you will actually thrive away from the big office environment. The last thing you want to do is become a miserable hermit.
Secondly ask whether you can self motivate. After lunch it is all too easy to walk away from the desk flop on the sofa and watch Judge Judy on for an hour when there is nobody to tell you not to. Remember that you are still on the clock and being paid by your employer.
Equally it is all too easy to carry on working till much later at night because you don’t have the 5.30pm exodus of colleagues, reminding you that there is more to life than finishing off yet another report.
